CONCUSSION
Dr Jessica Povall specialises in treating the following:
CONCUSSION
Not just a knock to the head
Concussion represents a significant neurological injury, and the notion of a "minor head knock" is misleading. Regardless of whether loss of consciousness occurs, a concussion demands prompt assessment due to its potential for substantial repercussions. It is essential to recognise that concussion is not solely a brain injury but also an inflammatory process that affects the Autonomic Nervous System, including the gut and immune system. Consequently, concussion extend beyond headaches, encompassing symptoms such as neck pain, dizziness, balance disturbances, mood alterations, and sleep disturbances, among others.

Physiotherapy plays a crucial role in the management of concussions, irrespective of the timing of the injury. As a concussion specialist trained through the Complete Concussion Management Institute (CCMI), I conduct comprehensive assessments including balance, oculomotor function, vestibular system integrity, cervical spine health, and Autonomic Nervous System status. I also undertake, and strongly advocate, the benefits of baseline testing.

Rehabilitation of concussion requires a bespoke approach. I am dedicated to devising rehabilitation programs that cater to diverse populations, from high-level athletes to individuals seeking to resume daily activities. By offering specialised care and targeted interventions, I aim to support optimal recovery and promote the return to pre-injury levels of function and activity.
